Student Gradings

Authorised instructors may grade their own students up to two grades below examiner e.g. 1st Dan can grate to 2nd KYU, KYU grades require a minimum three months between grades.  Assistance with grades and courses can be arranged.

Dan Gradings or Master Si-fu

These are awarded by approved instructors of the association.  DANs from other reputable associations with be honoured subject to approval.  The formula is:  Minimum three years to 1st DAN, then 2 more to 2nd DAN, then three more to 3rd DAN, four to 4th DAN, five more to 5th DAN etc.  Note these are guidance.  BIKMA DAN grade certificates are available to approved DAN’s.   They are gold embossed and fully stamped. 

             

 

Cadet DANS

Persons under eighteen years are cadets and can be designated assistant instructors only.  The ‘C’ or Cadet must prefix the DAN grade on any publication.  They must revert to Senior KYU grading (1st KYU) before their 18th birthday and take a senior DAN grading by their 18th birthday.  DAN Grade refereeing and judging and co-ordaining courses in all BIKM styles are available upon request at BIKMA HQ.

Regions

Regional organisers are ready to help and advise with competitions and courses (at your voluntary acceptance).  Each region has a championships and selection courses and competitions in the main martial arts sports.  The winners and best go through to the national squads.  All regions have good instructors ready to help you.  We also have mobile instructors available to help with gradings and courses.  These include Karate, Ju-Jitsu, Kung-Fu, Kali, Escrima, Muay- Thai, Judo, Kickboxing, fifth degree to master level instructors.  These are all subject to your acceptance there is no financial compulsion or correction in BIKMA. 

Instructors are encouraged and advised to seek continual advancement, national organsisations include Martial Arts (UK), Sports Coach(UK) and WKMA.

Internationals

BIKMA is affiliated to the best international bodies to give its members the best opportunity to take part at the highest level, which includes WKMA, WJJA, WTWA & WBA.

Styles

Many styles co-exist with BIKMA.  Some follow the traditional styles and curricular, some combine to form new ways.  All this is quite valid so long as the teaching and training and curriculum can be approved and so long as DAN or Master Degree achieved can hold up with the best in any style.  BIKMA has every style if martial art including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Malaysian, Thai, Indian, modern freestyle and self defence.  The styles have an ad-hoc committees which meet as and when required.

Special Interest

BIKMA keep abreast of all new developments in government legislation and the progress and relationship between the law, governing bodies and all martial arts related subjects. 

Instructors

Must be of contractual age (18) and hold an approved DAN or equivalent.  They must have BIKMA instructors insurance (to the value of £10 million cover) and the club must be fully registered.  New entrants must supply photocopies of DAN grades and or certificates and if these are from unknown sources then we may require to assess the applicant by one of our designed officers.
